Host City: UEFA EURO 2016 in Paris
Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of Tourism & Sports, Jean-François Martins, spoke at the Host City Conference in Glasgow, last month, about the plan developed to host the UEFA EURO 2016 and lessons learned in the process.
The UEFA EURO Football tournament was successfully hosted by France in June 2016.
Paris was one of ten host cities for the event. The local organising committee developed a plan to make the event serve the city’s public policies and accelerate the achievement of social objectives. In his speech at the conference, Jean-François Martins listed a series of actions taken to generate hard and soft legacies from hosting the EURO2016. Sharing, Innovating, and Preserving were the three pillars underpinning their plan.
Jean-François also spoke about the relationship between the organising committee and all stakeholders and how important it is to dedicate permanent attention to all of them, not only to events rights owners. Other relevant points were discussed at the session, as the terrorist threats and how they overcame this challenge.
